Cottage Details
The quality control that we maintain at Island Cottage begins in the earliest phase of construction-specifying the grade of native Maine Pine that will provide the strength of our structure and also the characteristic warm interior of our cottages. The wood is dried and milled in our shop where we strive for efficiency and consistency in every step of the production.

Our shop provides a different work space for each phase of construction: the post and beam frame is assembled on jig tables, interior panels are fitted to the frame, electrical and high R-value rigid foam insulation (providing sound proofing and extreme energy efficiency) is installed in panels. The panels are then finished for with solid pine sheathing, Tyvek barrier, and Eastern White Cedar shingles. The interior walls receive pre-finished tongue and groove v-match Pine paneling and the floors are 1 1/2” thick wide Pine. Windows and doors are Marvin double-hung aluminum clad for low maintenance. The panels are then stacked and stored until transport. With our hands on the product from start to finish we can provide the consistency and quality that we strive for at Island Cottage.
The way that our cottages are constructed allows you to truly “customize” your cottage in many ways. Exterior options involve roof types such as standing seam metal in many color choices or architectural grade shingles. Exterior cedar shingles may be pre-stained or left natural. Marvin windows and trim come in many colors to individualize your cottage.
The most exciting option for customization lies within our Island Cottages! Because the interiors are comprised of set-size components, windows and doors can be placed anywhere within those components, allowing you to take advantage of your site’s unique views. The first and second floors are open to your requirements for the number of bedrooms, the number of bathrooms and other desired spaces. We work with you hands on (actually C.A.D.’s on!) to design a floor plan that fits your family’s lifestyle and your site’s aesthetics.
All in all, we’ve designed a high-end, energy efficient, low maintenance structure without compromising the beauty and simplicity of a pine post and beam cottage. We truly feel that you won’t find anything in the market that comes close to an Island Cottage!
